[LUNI] ethn0 failed initialization and xidentd problems with xchat

I notice that upon initializing Linux...a ethn0 initialization failed
message comes up.  Everything seems to work fin though, except once in
awhile i get core dumps.  Also I can not use xchat on an efnet server
because it says I'm suppose to install indent.  My understanding is that
Red Hat 7.1 has it installed already.  I've noticed that it is called
xidentd.  I'm wondering if both of these are related in any way.

how can i fix the ethn0 failed problem?
how can i utilize x chat on an efnet server?

i'm still fairly new to linux....and just need a little assitance to get
the most of it....
