I just wanted to share a software "discovery" I've made: the jext editor (available at jext.org).

I really like it. Although I was leery of it at first since it's a java program, it's very responsive for text editing. It has great features like tabbed windows, support for many languages with syntax highlighting (python is the most important for me), class and function browsing, ability to comment out and shift the indentation of blocks of code. And it looks great and is skinnable. Gnome icons are an option. And it's GPL.

And it even has it's own cross platform console (you can actually do "ls" on windows this way).
