[LUNI] printer frustrations

I am having great difficulty getting two printers set up.  I'm hoping
there are some printer experts out in lugland...

I have two printers that I need to print to.  One is a Tektronix Phaser
740 which has its own IP address, and the other is an HP 4ML laserjet
which can be connected directly to my workstation or via a SMB share.

The Tektronix printer only works when setup using LPRng. For whatever
reason, it did not work with CUPS. I tried the CUPS-o-matic, also.  No
go.

I have only been able to get the HP to work with CUPS.  When I use
LPRng, the print job gets sent to the printer, but the only thing that
gets printed is a line that says "No way to print this type of input
file:"   Then it tells what kind of file you were trying to print.

The real problem is that CUPS and LPRng are mutually exclusive.  I have
to go with one or the other.   I am inclined to go with LPRng since it
claims to support the HP 4ML.   However, a search on google (web and
groups) produced no solutions.
