[LUNI] Samba Networking Problems

I can't think of a good reason why Samba would need to do DNS lookups at
all... Maybe it is trying to reverse-resolve the IP addresses of the
clients, which would fail anyway since they're private addresses. I'd
suggest looking through your Samba config for DNS-related options
("dns proxy", "name resolve order", maybe "netbios name") and tweak them
to avoid querying the DNS server for NetBIOS-related queries.

This server is also running samba (please, no lectures on why I shouldn't be doing this). I am not running bind on this server. It appears that their are brief outages in the AT&T broadband cable service that are causing the samba network to go down as well, likely because of the lack of a reply to a DNS request. Is there a solution to this other than running BIND as a caching nameserver for the internal network?
