Subject: Chicago Area LUG List (was Re: [LUNI] website needs help)
I had a really hard time figuring out what the deal was with all of the
LUGs in Chicago when I first moved here too. They are all pretty loosely
organized. Many don't have much on the web, which is where alot of
people go looking for information first. Even after living here for 2
years and being fairly active in the community, I'm still not sure
what's out there.
So, I'd like to compile as comprehensive of a list as possible of all
groups in the greater Chicago and suburbs area. I've already started a
page with everything I know. If anyone on this list can help me fill in
the gaps, please send me a quick email or post your information on this
list. I'm not so worried about posting meeting times and events here,
just getting links, contact email addresses, and other such info for all
of the groups in one place. I will do my best to verify and check up on
things at least occasionally and keep the info current. Mainly I want
this page to be a reliable resource for people who are trying to find a
group in their area.
I would like to have for each group the following items of information,
if available:
* group name
* mailing list info
* web site url
* contact person (if there is one)
* a brief description of the meeting format and any other relevant info
* how to find out when the next meeting is
I will appreciate any help I can get trying to get this list together.
Thanks in advance for any support you can offer.
The page is located at http://manufaxure.com/paul/chicago-lug . It's
pretty rough for now, but it's a good start. Check it out and let me
know what you think. I've included a summary here of what I have so far.
Most of this is from a little research in the LUNI annouce list archives
and my personal experience....
Users Groups:

UFO meets regularly on the 2nd and 4th thursdays of every month. The
location is usually at Victoria's (3224 W. Foster Ave, Chicago)but may
vary. Check the web site for current meeting info. I attend fairly
often. Visitors are welcome, the meetings are very informal. Come to
chat, argue, or plot and scheme with other free software enthusiasts
from the city's north side.
NPLUG (Non-profit Linux Users Group)
mailing list: email majordomo at www.council-of-fools.com and put

WCLUG
Meeting announcements are posted on the LUNI announce list. I don't know
too much else about this group other than that the meeting are generally
in the near north side of chicago.
NWCLUG
Meeting announcements are posted on the LUNI announce list. I don't know
too much else about this group either, other than that they meet
somewhere in the suburbs.
