It's not that uncommon for firewalls to not let pings back in.
It does appear that you are getting the name resolved to an
IP so something is working here.
Have you tried higher level protocols? (like http, I imagine so
just thougt I'd ask)
> [root at gateway root]# more /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth1
Is this IPADDR extra if your are getting your IP via dhcp
Apparently this doesn't matter, just asking.
> [root at duain root]# more /etc/resolv.conf
> nameserver 192.168.9.2
> search gateway.localdomain
Ahh, that's where you're getting your IP from. I'm
not sure what the best way to do this is but I would
just put the rcnchicago info on the clients. Not the
nameserver on gateway.
> [root at duain root]# tail /etc/rc.d/rc.local
> echo "Welcome to Mandrake Linux" > /etc/issue.net
> echo "-------------------------" >> /etc/issue.net
> touch /var/lock/subsys/local
> # my commands
> # add gateway.localdomain as default route
> route add default gw 192.168.9.2
I'm guessing that it's probably your firewall rules.
Sorry I can't tell you more. I've never set one up.
