[LUNI] xinitrc and Debian

Greetings,
	I just installed Debian on a workstation.  So far so good.  I installed
Blackbox, bbpager, bbkeys and all that good stuff as well as copied over my
.xinitrc.  However, when I 'startx' it does not read my .xinitrc, it reads elsewhere
and starts KDE! In Slackware, your .xinitrc overrides all others (global) - 
what do I need to do for my .xinitrc to be read from my home directory?
