[LUNI] Font Size in "init 3" mode

 I boot my RedHat 8.0 in init level 3 then "startx" as required.

 When I stay at init level 3 I find the font size (and therefore characters
 per line and lines per screen) too large, and leading to line wrap on
 certain displays: eg: "cat fstab" when the cdrom device has a lot of comma
separated variables.

 Is there a way to change the font size, characters per inch, and lines per
 screen?

 I assume that such a change will be recognized by all programs invoked, eg:
 vi.
