PS1 is the environment variable for the normal prompt in most *NIX
shells.  You can set it to some neat and wacky things, for example, open
up a shell and paste mine (begining of this thread) in as PS1="lots of
stuff" (granted you are using bash, which is what it's designed for)
(also make sure you take out the email added newlines and change them to
spaces).  If you know much about ANSI escape codes and such you can mess
around with it and do some whacked things.
