[LUNI] Routers, MTU, and Comcast, oh my!

So I have a Linksys router/switch/AP combo that's plugged into my
Comcast cable internet line. The router sucks, IMHO, because I keep
getting dropped packets which wrecks havoc with my connection. Some
people have told me to just drop my MTU size on the router, but when I
talked to a Comcast rep tech he was to my complete and utter lack of
surprise completely clueless as to what an MTU was.

So, does anyone here have a good idea of what a good MTU size is for
Comcast? Or is that a red herring, and I just need to roll my own
damned router? (Something I plan to do at some point anyway, just
haven't gotten around to it.)

exclusive property, it is the action of the thinking power called an

to himself; but the moment it is divulged, it forces itself into the
possession of every one, and the receiver cannot dispossess himself of
it." -- Thomas Jefferson
