That's not a P4 thing, that's an Itanium thing.  Intel has switched to 
some new hard disk system that is not backward compatible, but actually 
makes a lot more sense than the MBR/4 partitions/logical drives setup. 
WinXP supports it.  Not sure about the Itanium versions of Linux.  On a 
mainstream P4 it shouldn't make a difference.  Although I recall hearing 
that WinXP doesn't like LILO, so you need GRUB (or maybe it was the 
other way around, something like that).
