[LUNI] Anybody use Starnet WX? (vs DSL)Jirsa, Jeff Jeff.Jirsa at tfn.comMon Jun 30 15:43:18 CDT 2003
I think that they have been giving out the CO distance "as the crow flies", and now they are doing actual distance, which includes the length of wire that zigzags its way through around the city blocks to your house. -----Original Message----- From: SqrFolkDnc at aol.com [mailto:SqrFolkDnc at aol.com] Sent: Sunday, June 29, 2003 5:52 AM To: luni at luni.org Subject: Re: [LUNI] Anybody use Starnet WX? (vs DSL) What exactly is the "physical test"? I talked to the SBC person to order it from (and he was knowledgeable enough to answer my questions), then he conferenced in somebody else (presumably also an SBC technician), telling her that he had two indications, one saying I could get DSL and another saying not. She did something (presumably running some kind of test) and said I was too far from the CO. I asked her if some intermittent problems I have been having (mostly crosstalk between my two phone lines) could affect her test, and she said no, her test didn't go as far as my home. >Today I learned I am too far from the central office to get [Yahoo] DSL. I >presume that if one DSL carrier says I am too far, that applies to >all of them, right? Well, maybe. The whole line distance thing seems to be a little imprecise, and they won't have a really solid number until they do a physical test - which isn't going to happen until you actually order, as I understand it. --Carey Tyler Schug -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
