Brew your own. You can probably pick up a high end P-III around 1 Ghz for
next to nothing. If you "splurge" on a nice case, you'll have tons of room
for whatever you want to put into it. Intel chipset P-III hardware often
comes with linux friendly integrated graphics and sometimes LAN as well.
The only downside is a 512 MB RAM limitation.

Subject: [LUNI] I want the cheapest server around
Hi,
I want to buy the least expensive server I can find. My needs are simple:
Fast Chip (I don't need the fastest most current chip, but something better
than PII 400Mhz)
1 GB Memory
Room for 2+ hard drives (4 would be great) , 1 CD/DVD, 1 Floppy, 1 tape
A couple of empty pci slots
Maybe a crappy onboard video card (that plays well with Linux)
no sound, modem, monitor, speakers, OS
I'm going to consolidate all my boxes and run, file server, web server,
Oracle, CVS, vncserver (that's about it)
Any suggestions?
Thanks
Jay
