Sadly, no: MS actually believe these things are true.

The hallmark of delusions -- and obsessions -- is that the
individual actually must believe them. This is what makes
treating them so difficult: your reality has nothing to do
with what they will accept as "truth". Logic is thus rendered
useless since they will simply disregard anything that does
not support their conculsions drawn from the underlying
pshchosis.

The authors don't need to believe the delusions themselves,
just publish reports that support the phychotic expectations,
in order to make a living. Mix in a huge bankroll and, Viola!,
you have MS marketing!
