Dialup accelerators, heh.

Here's what they do:  They're intermediate web proxies, that intercept
images and resample them to be smaller (crappier JPEG quality...
etc) before sending them back to the user.  Squid can do the proxy
part, but you'd have to find a tool that would shrink those images
and run inline.

I hate 'em, and I think they're false advertising.  They make web
images look much crappier.
