Without the hard disk and the original software it is not a deal unless 
you are a hardware hacker.  You will not be able to put any sort of 
normal distro on it, or use the video I/O hardware.

Now, you *may* be able to find on some tivo hacking sites someone with 
the same model tivo to give you an image of their system, and you can 
buy a new remote from tivo's website.  You will still need to then 
purchase service and everything.
