If you're starting from scratch. you betcha. That's why there are
three 3ware controllers in machines in this room (the fourth one is a
laptop). The proliant is an old hand-me-down, has limited capacity for
mounting hard drives aside from the hotplug SCSI bays, and came with a
useful quantity of still-working SCSI drives on hotplug carriers.
Those last are, of course, why I was playing around with RAID rebuilds
last week!

Only in that LVM is orthogonal to RAID.

In terms of utility rather than dollars, I can spend "nothing"
(which to a first approximation is the value of a dollar out of my
weekly budget) to get a non-zero chance of completely changing my
life. Or, in yet other terms, I can just wait for them to send me
the check by mistake, which can't be *that* much less likely than
