Curt,

I've been running Oracle (the database only) on Linux (Debian) for a
number of years. I've found version 9 (in general) to NOT be very
stable on Linux, I'm currently on 10.1.0.3/Sarge and its the best combo
I've used.

Can you version up? It sounds like this could not be a production box
since the DB is crashing.

Do you have the NLS_LANG environmental variable set?

Do you have technet.oracle.com account setup?
Do you have a metalink.oracle.com account setup?

Both of which are good places to find threads about issues/resolution

Jay
