[LUNI] is this a classic Linux hard drive crash?

Hey all,
Last night I came home from a trip and the screen on my SuSE 9.1 box was
frozen.
I rebooted, got a No System Disk error.
I wiggled the connections on my hard drives and tried again. Grub loaded, I
selected SuSE, then I got hundreds of errors like these:
ReiserFS: warning: is_tree_node: node level 9628 does not match to the
expected one 1
ReiserFS: hda3: warning: VS-5150: search_by_key: invalid format found in
block 8701. Fsck?
ReiserFS: hda3: warning: zam-7001: io error in reiserfs_find_entry
Init: Id "1" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes
Init: Id "2 respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes
Init: Id "3" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes
Init: Id "4" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes
Init: Id "5" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes
Init: Id "6" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes
I couldn't figure out a way to scroll up the list of errors to see the ones
at top (SuSE uses a pretty blue X-based screen on bootup). These I just
wrote down.
I've never had hardware issues with Linux, but it seems my OS partition is
bunk. Seem correct? I have a separate partition for /home, so if that's the
case I could always try to get some of my data back (I have a pretty recent
backup too).
Or is it possibly corruption in the file system I could repair with a rescue
disk?
Please CC on any replies as I'm only a digest subscriber.
Thanks & best,
