[LUNI] Firewire enclosure recs?

Does anyone have any recs for a Firewire (and possibly USB 2.0) hard drive
enclosure that works well with linux? I bought a Bytecc enclosure from
newegg which my research initially indicated was supported. But it turns
out that the chipset used (Prolific PL3507) is sketchy. The drive gets
recognized and I can mount it, but trying to push any appreciable amount of
data thought it ends up in timeouts in the sbp2 driver. And if I use USB,
after the first 150MB, transfer slows down to a crawl. I've tried a
firmware upgrade and a sbp2 module options that 'might' help, and it didn't.
I've tested a Maxtor One-Touch drive/enclosure on the system and it worked
flawlessly, so I have a benchmark of what is possible. The Bytecc isn't
cutting it.
I'm now looking at a Mapower case as a replacement:

Any thoughts on this or others I should look at?
BTW, here is the one that isn't working well:
