In that case, would Subversion meet your needs?  It is not a CMS, but it
will store files, their changes, and with a little fidgeting, make them
available over the web.  And it will absolutely start with a tree of your
own files.

I personally check all of my work (at work) into my own subversion
repository.  When I'm at a guest computer, I just check it out, and I have
my complete environment replicated in a few minutes.
