[LUNI] VPN really slow

Hello luni,

(I'm sending this from "The Bat!), anyway. I'm running openVPN on
my linksys WRT54G, running DDWRT software. It seems really slow,
but I'm not sure if that's to be expected. It takes me about 10
times as long to open, copy, move, access files via my VPN as it
  would over my local network.

  I have the following setup:

  --internet--DSL router (2 external IPs)--switch--|
                                                   |
                                                   |
|--------------------------------------------------| |
|
| linksys router w/Openvpn--- fileserver
|--<
     linksys router --- laptop

I'm on a wired local connection from laptop to fileserver, but it's
very slow. I'm worried once I get across the internet the delay will
make the setup unusable.

I'm using OpenVPN on my laptop client too.

I've been googling but am not finding anything really indicative.

- Is VPN a cpu intense thing? and maybe the WRT54G isn't fast enough to
really handle it?

- Is there something I should be on the look out for, config-wise to
speed things up

Thanks
Jay
