Okay, so let's get a show of hands of all of those who are tired of seeing my
name in their mailbox! That's what I thought. Sorry about all the
annoyance. I promise this won't hurt a bit. Just a little pin-prick...
BY POPULAR DEMAND--and boy was there demand--I've been forced to scrap all
plans for today and move things along to this Saturday. Yay! Cheers and
excitement! And there was much rejoicing and eating of breakfast cereals,
etc., insert Monty Python reference here.
The plan this time is much simpler. MUCH simpler. Because Mike is out of
brain power--I apologize for not being more clever.
Here's the plan: You meet me in front of the NBC building (like 401 N.
Michigan, just north of the river) at 2PM. I give you a hazmat suit
(quantities are limited to like 15 I think) and a stack of leaflets (those
quantities are not as limited) and put an eliminate DRM sticker on your back.
Then we all--as a group--walk up the Mag Mile looking "soo good" and handing
out flyers. At 5PM, we close things down. We put suits up and we decide
whether to go home or have supper out.
Whether we hand out 3 or 3,000 leaflets, let's try to have a good time and do
our community the service of making them aware of this injustice being done
upon them.
Our goal is to educate the folks who Microsoft and Sony and (insert
DRM-offending company here) are targetting, and let them know how they're
being restricted. I'd like people who participate to kinda do their homework
if they can. Today during my 5-hour ordeal, the question of "what else is
there" was asked many times. They thought they could catch me, but they were
WRONG! WinAMP and CDs are a great alternative, emusic.com is a great
alternative. At the same time, however, the ugly truth in some areas is that
I'm unaware of any alternatives. HD video doesn't seem to have an
alternative. The alternative there is to not buy at all. Some people won't
like that idea. Be prepared for people to argue with you. They do... a lot.
I hope you all have a great week, and I hope to see you Saturday at 2PM.
