I was just looking for something like this last week - and I know
there is a solution out there, as I once saw it at a trade convention,
but unfortunately couldn't find the contact info.
We were using Adobe Approval 5.0, which was the last version released
that allowed for saving of filled in form fields of a PDF, without
having to upgrade to Acrobat. It was relatively cheap, $50 per
license (not as good as the free reader, but not the whole acrobat
either)
The solution that I had come across, but can't find again, basically
takes your PDF you created, which contains fillable form fields and
modifies it for a nominal charge, which then let you save it - it was
pretty slick, a bit hacky, but it seemed to be the missing link for
the project I was working on.
