Boot the CD/DVD in rescue mode, mount the "boot" or "root" partition
to /mnt/hda<x> (<x> is a number corresponding to the HDD device for the

Make sure the mouse connector is seated firmly in the PS/2 port.  If a
KVM is involved then try power cycling the KVM.
