For point and shoot I have a Canon SD400, it works fine via gphoto2, but 
more often than not I just take the SD card out and use a USB card reader.

I am about to get either Nikon D200 or Canon 30D, but again one could just 
take the CF card out and use a CF to PC card adapter or a CF card reader.
