I have a Fuji S602 and am happy with it. Fuji and all the other
manufacturers make many different grades of camera for different
audiences. You get what you pay for.
I have never used any of the camera programs. I plug the camera in to
the computer via the supplied USB cable, mount it as a USB drive and
copy the jpeg files to hard drive. I also have a USB card reader ( the
602 uses compact flash) but connecting the camera directly seems to work
better and saves wear on the compact flash socket. For viewing photos I
use Gwenview which came with SuSE 10 and easily links to the GIMP.
