I'm unable to install the updated BIOS at this time (explanation below).

But I installed ubuntu on this machine and it is not having any
problem with the resolution on reboot, so I suspect it's not a BIOS
issue anyway.

Any other ideas?

Thanks
Jay

The BIOS update only comes in an *.exe. Unfortunately I don't have an
M$ machine with a floppy drive. So I had to install XP on the
thinkpad in question, in order to create a floppy with the BIOS
update.

Then I ran the update only to find out, the BIOS update program
requires a fully charged battery. About a week ago I sent my laptop
battery away to batteryrecell.com to get a new one.

So I can't install the BIOS updated for a couple of weeks.
