Now is as good a time as any. With a degraded array you are at much higher risk to lose data if the other drive fails.
As for powering down the box that may help it may not. It depends if how long until you can replace the disk.
Considering you dont have a backup. I would say shut it down to make sure the good drive does not go while you are away.
