No, your kde configs files are in $HOME. KMail msgs are in $HOME/Mail.
Hopefully, your /home is mounted on a separate disk partition.

The way I see it you have two options:
a) Look around in /etc/X11 and see if the previous version of xorg.conf
has been backed up. If so, you can rename it back to xorg.conf and see
if it helps.
b) As root back up /home into a file (tar czf home.tar.gz /home) and
save it some place. Reinstall your distro and restore /home from your
back up file. If your /home is on a different disk partition, this may
not be necessary - just keep in mind not to format this partition
during the reinstall :)
