Rob,
I don't have a lot of solid answers to your questions. The last time was a few weeks ago. There were some warning about SE linux alt files not dumping but I tested restore since than and it worked. I appreciate your reply, and I am desperate need of help, but not in a very good frame of mind for answering questions right now.

Richard, when was the last time that you were able to run a successful restore? It sounds like the data on the tapes could be corrupted. Are these new tapes, or ones that you've been re-using? Also, when you performed the backups, were there any weird messages?
