Shucks, there's plenty of reasons... like not depending on the DHCP
server to be working, or sane, or not subverted, especially if other
machines rely on its address (you really want your local DNS resolver's
IP address to be so changeable? <grin>). OTOH, there are reasons not
to assign fixed addresses in a lot of cases. Like most things, it's a
tradeoff, and any dogmatic answer will be wrong some of the time.
You really want the reachability of your server to depend on the
vagaries of some $50 piece of disposable plastic junk? :-)
