I haven't worked with Adaptec, so I don't know how difficult it will be to
install/setup. With the 3ware, I just installed the distro and it recognized
the card an set up the drivers automatically. I didn't have to touch a
thing. But then, most closed source drivers aren't included in the distros
for them to be automatically set up/installed.
My main experience with closed source drivers is the nvidia drivers. The
install is mostly painless and fairly quick. It's even a lot better then it
used to be. Like I said, my main concern is that it works with little to no
fuss. If the Adaptec drivers are a pain to setup/upgrade/etc, then I'll
probably go 3ware.
