A little more expensive, but probably will get you a better result is
something like the ADVC line from Canopus. (It was just the first example I
could find, I haven't used one.)
http://canopus.com/products/ADVC110/index.php This is made for exactly what
you're doing, and you'll be able to suck the video in via dv, Kino.
A friend of mine purchased a similar device and had good results.
