Its not the lack of root, its the all system access given 
to the user with just their password. If you are the user 
and the sysadmin that's ok/ If you are deploying multiple 
machines for many users giving that much authority to each 
user with their own password is too much of a security 
risk.

I know that I can alter the sudoer's list to give some 
user id's the full authority and others limited, but then 
why not just have a root and users?
