Then I must run in to a lot of bad apples. When ever I'm in the gentoo channel I
usualy end up haveing someone insult me for wanting to do something much
different then the 'Gentoo' way. Granted they have a very large community, and
vocal as well, but I have encountered a lot of slashdot replys and usenet
flame-war style responces. I dont like having to sift thew spam/junk to get some
one willing to help me.

Last night in fact I was in the #gentoo channel and asked if anyone knew how to
start Gnome from a cli. Use gdm (I hate starting in to X) or "You need to go and
search Google how to configure startx". If I didnt know how to configure
X-windows I would be asking a much different question, but considering I have
not used used Gnome is about 6 years I figured I would try it out (thanks to
ubuntu's work with it). I chose to not use ubuntu on my desktop because of some
of the limitations of it. I eventually went to #sourcemage to get the answer,
and it took about 30 seconds (startgnome, gnome-session, or echo "gnome-session"
>> .xinitrc).

Gentoo has potential but the community that I see is one that is very 31337ist,
and is over all more hurtfull then to F/OSS then anything else.

Check out http://www.sourcemage.org/Gentoo for a good list of differences
between Sourcemage and Gentoo.
