[LUNI] [OT-HW] Dual Channel DDR2 memory question

I have an Intel D945GTP mother board which has color coded (pair wise)
slots for memory.  The system came with 2x256 MB occupying one of the
pairs (total of 512MB).  

I was told that the board takes DDR2 dual channel memory. I have spoken
with a couple of resellers and have not gotten a very clear explanation.

Here is where I need help.  Does the dual channel functionality come
into play when two DDR2 DIMMs of same capacity are installed into a slot
pair?
