[LUNI] Linux Release

Dear Luni Folks,

On Saturday, I bought one of those bargain refurbished computers at
Microcenter. It was a nice deal - an inexpensive home machine for
connecting to work or web surfing for less that $250.

Of course, I want to rip out XP and install Linux. I can boot Knoppix,
so I know that it's Linux-ready. But all of the releases that I have are
rather stale - the newest is Fedora Core 1, which is nearly five years
old.. And I don't have the facilities for downloading and burning my own
CDs of a release on-line.

So, my question is this:

Of the retail outlets in Chicago that sell Linux, which outlet would you
recommend, and which release would you recommend?

Thanks!
