Hi,
I've got a weird issue. When I run kubuntu (fresh install), my IBM
A30 Thinkpad. After install my /etc/iftab looks like:
eth0 mac 00:d0:59:83:5f:d2 arp 1
wlan0 mac 00:00:00:00:00:00 arp 1
my wireless card:
jstrauss at jstrauss-laptop:~$ lspci | grep Prism
02:02.0 Network controller: Intersil Corporation Prism 2.5 Wavelan
chipset (rev 01)
At this point I can use knetworkmanager, and it communicates with the
card and I can see my wireless networks (as well as my neighbors).
When I do "ifconfig", I get a eth0 and eth1 (eth1 being the wireless).
Which is kinda weird since I would think I'd get eth0 and wlan0.
Anyone know where/how Kubuntu comes up with the adapter names?
However, In order to use WPA2 on a Prism 2.5 card one must use the
hostap drivers and not the orinoco drivers (I know this from previous
experience).
If I blacklist the orinoco drivers:
jstrauss at jstrauss-laptop:~$ cat /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist | grep orinoco
blacklist orinoco
blacklist orinoco_pci
When I reboot the "eth1" adapter is gone.
I've tried manually adding the "eth1" to my /etc/iftab, but it doesn't help.
I'm unable to get my wireless card to work under this version of
Kubuntu. Everything works (relatively) under Kubuntu 6.06 (Dapper).
Under 6.06 all I really needed to do was blacklist the orinoco.
Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks
Jay
