I always try to clean up.  The source takes up space and can complicate
troubleshooting later (it may look like you installed from source) after
you forget about how those files got there.

You may need to go to a terminal and type:
sudo rm <path to clamd.confi>/clamd.config
to remove some files that your user does not have permissions to
change/delete.

I suspect in one of the clam config files you can set it to not
automatically update/warn you of new versions of clam.  you may want to
try googling for clamd no auto updates or something similiar.
