As for spam:
I remember reading something on /. about an IT data center in Las Vegas 
in a bad neighborhood. Some of the employees carried side-arms, 
especially during the overnight shifts. When someone would ask them why 
the gun, their stock answer was "I DON'T LIKE SPAM!"
