[LUNI] Laptop makes a funny noise

Right, but if a power inverter isn't producing the correct voltage(s)
the unit might not boot.
If a transformer was broken, or a trace cracked that would knock the
oscillator off frequency, it could make a high-pitch whine and voltages
would be missing or out of tolerance.

Not that it helps much unless you can find and repair the damage.
If you don't detect any physical trauma, it may be hard to isolate.
