[LUNI] Help or New Distro Recomendation Please

I have been battling with yum to install videolanclient (vlc) for days now and am about ready to give up and do a fresh install of another distro ( now running  Centos OS 4.3. )  I have fished around and have tried about every recommended remedy for this problem to no avail.  If anyone has any suggestions how I can fix this problem I would appreciate hearing it.  Otherwise if anyone knows of a distro that can handle a yum vlc install I would also appreciate this info.
