I use Speakeasy (and pay a lot) for 2 reasons:
1. I need static IP addresses
2. They are the only company with competent support for DSL that I have
dealt with
It sounds like you've had great luck with SBC. That seems to be rather
rare in my experience. I support several small/home business clients
and ALL of them have had extended or recurring outages with AT&T and/or
Comcast. Neither Comcast or AT&T's tech support are capable solving
problems not in their knowledge base. What's worse is they ask you to
remove ALL security measures before doing anything. For this reason, I
advise my clients to pretend the computer is directly connected to the
cable modem or to have me deal with Comcast/AT&T to avoid further
problems.
The difference is quite noticeable between speakeasy and AT&T but so its
the price. For my use a reliable connection warrants the extra cost
(not so for some of the home office users).
