you can hook it in to the whole house.  you should just remember to
unhook the old service line first to prevent some kind of feedback or
voltage issue.  not a problem if you have Cable Internet.  may be an
issue with DSL.
i have my whole house wired for Vonage via the standard phone wall outlets...
