I seem to have deleted the message rather than replying to it, but
luckily I don't have anything to say about the details of the setup
anyway.  :-)

Anwyay, if it were me, I'd setup 4 mirror pairs and place [the bulk of
them, anwyay] under LVM, which is quite happy to stripe a logical
volume across physical volumes... as many or as few as you wish,
possibly differently for each LV.
