Checking on my Xubuntu laptop I see a 'shared folders' app under 
'System' on the main XFCE menu.
So on gnome ubuntu look for 'shared folders'.

Clicking on it, I see that it prompts:
"Sharing services are not installed"
"You need to install at least either Samba or NFS in order to share your 
folders."
Then it gives you the option to install NFS, Samba or both.
