[LUNI] slowing down CPU?

Thanks for the ideas, I will keep them if I need them (new motherboard
or completely new heat sink).

Actually I could get a new motherboard for my OLD computer, which I got
off of because the onboard IDE failed. It was nice because it had more
open bays. Also, I could work on that and if I screw up, still have the
current one. Maybe I will proceed immediately. I may come back to the
list to seek help on setting jumpers. Once many years ago I bought a MB
planning to assemble a computer, but was confused by the jumper options
and gave up.

When I went back inside my current computer, I realized that, although I
had used the brace to hold down the broken corner of the heat sink, I
had missed hooking the diagonally opposite side of the heat sink. Once I
fixed that, it has been OK.

Now, my bracing is just plastic, so it will probably weaken over time,
but now I know it will be worth the effort to get a sturdy piece of
metal and cut it to the correct size in order to be more permanent.
