[LUNI] budget vmware box

Hey all,

I'm considering building a new server for VMWare purposes.  I'm thinking I want lots of cores and lots of RAM - but I've been out of the hardware scene for a long time now.  What's the current 'best' combination for a cheapskate like me?  This server is going to sit in my basement and do some Tivo serving via Galleon, file and print, whatever else I can come up with (maybe asterisk or opensips), maybe even Windows serving too.  I've seen that the latest multicore AMD chips seem to be dirt cheap - they just came out with a 3-core this week that's going for around $80, which is right around my price range...

Anyone have any suggestions?
