I had to do that just a couple of days ago. When rebooting doesn't
work I pull the power cord and leave it out about 5 minutes before
plugging it back in and then rebooting. This happens about every two
or three months!<br>

Hi,
<br>
Possibly a problem with the router itself? I had a D-Link router
<br>
hooked up to a cable modem for a couple of years with few problems.
Then
<br>
I started noticing once in a while the internal network would still
work
<br>
but connecting to the external network would fail. Power cycling the
<br>
cable box would sometimes resolve the problem and sometimes power
<br>
cycling the router instead would be needed. Over time this became more
<br>
frequent and I could find no good way with that setup to isolate the
<br>
problem to the cable company side, the cable modem or the router. I did
<br>
try various arrangements but it was at the point of having to power
<br>
cycle devices multiple times before it would work. The only complaint I
<br>
would see from the router was a timeout on trying to renew the DHCP
<br>
lease. Anyway when this reached the point of being an issue every day,
I
<br>
went and bought a new router (same basic one) configured it like the
old
<br>
one, and swapped it in. Haven't had to power cycle anything since then
<br>
(over six weeks), so I guessed right that the issue was the
<br>
communication between the router and the cable modem and replacing what
<br>
I could before calling the cable company.
<br>
Barring a hardware problem developing, it would be good to know if
<br>
this happens to a connection while you are actively using it
<br>
(downloading a large file for example), or only to connections with no
<br>
activity for a while.

Hi, just wanted to let everyone know that power cycling the router
solved
<br>
the problem. Next time I'll try that first. Who would have thought
that
<br>
turning it off and on again would work!
